Reminder of P1 Information Meeting
There will be a meeting in the hall on Friday 25th August as soon as the P1 children have come in to school in the morning around 9.30am. This meeting will inform you about homework, dinners and other information about starting P1.
Please come in through the Red Door but do not enter until all the children have entered. I will be there to meet you.
The meeting should last about 30 minutes.
All the staff have had a very busy and productive first day back planning all the priorities for the new session. We’ll be looking for pupil and parent contributions to these plans in the coming months.
We were very disappointed to return and see all the vandalism in the nursery and playdale which has occurred during the holidays. We were even more disappointed to find out some of our ex pupils have been involved in this. As a result the playdale is out of action until we are able to get an assessment carried out for the cost of repairing it and check if there is enough money in the school budget to cover these costs.
We look forward to seeing all the children looking smart in their new uniforms tomorrow and would like to remind parents to please name all of their children’s belongings including their water bottles for plain water only in the classrooms.
I hope you will join me in wishing Mrs Beattie a “Happy Retirement!” Mrs Beattie has been a fantastic, creative and loyal member of staff at Loirston for many years and she has certainly worked hard enough to earn her retirement. Hopefully she will keep in touch and be back to visit her “Loirston Family” very soon.
We wish Miss Johnston good luck and congratulations as she celebrates her marriage over the summer holidays. When we welcome her back to school in August she will be Mrs Leslie.
We welcome Miss Faye McCallum to Loirston in August. Miss McCallum will be teaching primary 4 this year and we hope she enjoys her new position here at Loirston.
As we come to the end of a very busy and successful year at school I would like to take the opportunity to thank all parents who help and support the pupils and staff at Loirston throughout the year. We very much appreciate the help and time that parents give to the school through supporting our children in class, on trips, with clubs and sports activities and on the Parent Council. A special thank you to those parents who are about to leave the school as their children move onto secondary school
We wish all of our P7 children good luck in secondary school and hope they have lots of fun and adventures in the next stage of their school life.

You may or may not be aware of a new feature in Snapchat after their latest update. It now allows you to share your location when you send a Snapchat which is then shown on a map for others to see. We have advised pupils from P4/5-P7 who wanted to find out more that the best option is to have your Snapchat set to ‘ghost mode’. This means that no one can see your location.
How to change the settings:
In the most up to date version of Snapchat open it in ‘selfie’ mode. Pinch the screen to zoom out. It will then give you the option to change who can see your location or select ‘ghost mode’.
Well done to Souterhead (Purple coloured bands) who are the final House Point Prize winners this year. They will be getting their prize on Monday 26th June in the afternoon. The children can come wearing their own clothes for the day and will be taken outside for a number of activities and some snacks in the afternoon. Fingers crossed for nice weather!
